Basically it is a branch of Moti Mahal Restaurant in Delhi that was opened way back in India in Since the very beginning Motimahal has been committed to quality and consistency with a promise of even greater customer experience.
In Motimahal Delux Tandoori trail restaurant was awarded the Icon of the industry award by the times of India group. Moti Mahal Franchise. Become a part of our family. At this point I was approached the first of many times by a very large and intimidating guy who couldn't understand a word I was saying in response to his repeated question.
This same guy paced back and forth behind us over and over again almost the entire visit and didn't do anything in the restaurant. Had to wait an endless amount of time for someone who was able to explain what the restrictions were on the offer. Everyone kept saying I don't work here I'm just helping out. Eventually we got our meal which was seriously lacking in the dishes main ingredient.
Also they forced us to order starters that we didn't want. As we ended our meal suddenly the guy that had been pacing screamed at another waiter at the top of his very loud voice cursing and looking like he was about to do violence to him and anyone else. After much arguing it was reduced.
I've left out a lot of bad details that I know trip advisor would not allow me to divulge and that you probably wouldn't believe. Simply put, don't subject yourself to this place. Food was OK but got the impression it was trying to be something special - most of the dishes had unrecognisable names bit turned out to be fairly ordinary curries.
I ordered lamb chops off menu which came with a nice sauce but the meat was very tough. The biggest disappointment was that the food was stone cold when it arrived at the table. We were past caring then, so ate what we wanted, paid and left. PPS Avoid the loos! Ive been to plenty of Indian restaurants in covent garden and I must say this one has fantastic food. Its a nice small place and it was particularly busy when we went but the service was very very good. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the place and the staff gave us a very enjoyable experience.
Will definitely go again! Highly recommended! Moti Mahal Covent Garden offers takeout which you can order by calling the restaurant at Moti Mahal Covent Garden is rated 1. Skip to Main Content. Food and service were excellent. Wine is pricey. Great ambience. Always an outstanding meal. I have enjoyed lunches and dinners here over a few years and I've never been disappointed. Their tasting menu provides a nice selection of Indian classics with a Moti Mahal twist - like duck samosas and a spicy scallop on lentils.
My partner enjoyed the wine pairings while I went dry. She was very happy with the choices of wines. Food exceeded our expectations - all main dishes we ordered, chicken tikka, the lamb and the vegetarian dish were of high quality. Side dishes are overpriced, and necessary in the context of how much food is in the main plate. Waiters were very attentive, if not a bit too much trying to cross-sell more food and drinks at all times. A bit pricey but overall good choice. Myself and my partner ate here, the food was fantastic and the service was also to a very high standard.
It was not a cheap meal out, more a restaurant for a special occasion, but if you have something to celebrate and want to go somewhere slightly more upmarket this restaurant would be a good choice. We enjoyed dining here again and our experience was just as good as our last one. The service was most helpful, courteous and friendly; the menu having changed since our last visit we were taken through it and provided with some guidance on menu choices which were appreciated.
The food was well presented, arrived promptly and was soon consumed! Delicious duck samosas, scrumptious seared scallops, satisfying spinach cakes and terrific chicken tikka tickled our taste buds to start with before moving on to lovely lemon sole and quality curries. We'll most definitely be back. Reasonable food for the price. Service was a bit hurried.
The welcoming was pleasant If you are a first time visitor than there is the lovely waiters at hand to guide you through the flavours. There was a taster menus which allows you discover an array of small dishes and tastes, but be sure to mention your spice level preference. Otherwise a nice ambience and way to start your evening of you are in the area. We were a family of four with a twelve year old on crutches.
The staff were perfect - informative on menu and the excellent wine list, understanding but not patronising with the children. The food was outstanding. Choices were excellent, the Indian wine I chose delicious. A really enjoyable start to our evening. Its a really good place, they represent the true Indian Cuisine and the quality of the food. Some of the things are even tailored to sell it to the high end customers.
For example, they had Truffle Naan in the Menu- which isn't Indian at all, but still that was of so much focus the whole evening. The food is pretty good, the portions are very small and its overall very expensive. We paid quid for 3 people without drinks.
Not enough vegetable dishes , but curries OK. My wife had a cocktail which was poor and really did not warrant the title of "cocktail". The menu is OK but I do think it could be slightly expanded to include better vegetable dishes to compliment the curries. We indulge ourselves with a gastronomic treat during our trips to London. We picked Moti Mahal based on our food preferences, on line reviews and location. The friendly atmosphere was immediately apparent as was the professionalism of the staff.
The menu was refined and diverse. Portion sizes were surprisingly large. I'm a regular. The food is really very good, as is the service. The seasonal truffle naan is particularly delicious. Worth keeping on the menu for as long as possible. I was fine but the person I went with struggled a bit. Ambience was nice and the food was good value.
