It wasn't necessarily superficial or one-dimensional in its characters, its just that some parts felt incomplete i. Worth a read if you like or dislike London, otherwise I'd say look elsewhere. I'm staying positive and giving it three stars, because I don't want the negatives to detract too much from what I liked about it. And it started off great. Jan 16, Jen rated it liked it.
Although the blurb is intriguing, I didn't expect much from this novel but was running out of options in the book exchange at our current campsite so picked it out. Bleeding London is actually pretty good! The three central human characters are interesting, if not completely rounded, and I liked the way London itself almost became another character in its own right.
The story is dark in places but I identified with the obsessive walking angle. Perhaps the intertwining of the stories is too contr Although the blurb is intriguing, I didn't expect much from this novel but was running out of options in the book exchange at our current campsite so picked it out.
Perhaps the intertwining of the stories is too contrived, but it's a good read nonetheless. May 31, Stephanie rated it really liked it Recommends it for: Anglophiles. Another really hilarious british social satirist I think that might be my favorite kind of fiction. All his novels are pretty funny,I especially love Everything and More, but Bleeding London is aweseome because it is all about my favorite city. Through several different characters Nicholson explore's the social, emotional and physical geography of London and it's meaning to different residents.
Sounds boring but it is actually quirky and funny. Aug 25, Jo rated it it was amazing. I am now a Geoff Nicholson fan. I loved this book. I thought it was witty, well written, and had great characters and one of those being London itself. Loved how each of the narratives overlapped in to a gripping conclusion. Would definitely like to see a Channel 4 series made of this novel.
Will re-read it in the future too. Aug 18, R. Mick Walton heads to London with a list. A list of men; all of whom he believes took part in the sexual violation of his girlfriend.
Problem is, Mick hates London. And London couldn't care less. Nicholson keeps the action flowing and the narration unreliable. As unreliable as a sixty-year-old map of The Big Smoke. The writing is excellent and the story is compelling mystery. Interesting characters but they did not draw me in enough to want to keep turning the pages.
Glad I finished it, though, because there's a clever twist in the end! It was okay, with some good ideas. Nicholson's depiction of London never really resonated with me and despite the promise of a thriller with comic moments it was too focused on, err The ending also didn't seem right for the story.
However, for Londoners even reluctant ones like myself , there's fun to be had spotting some of the more off-beat areas of the city. Mar 01, Sandy Sharp rated it really liked it. I heard about this book though the Royal Photographic Society project, Bleeding London, so I was intrigued to read what had inspired such an unique project. It's an interesting and well written story that brings together three different characters in London.
Well worth a read and it kept me thoroughly entertained till the end. Aug 31, Norah Robb rated it really liked it. Near the end of the book is this line "The statement hung in the air like the smell of yesterday's chip fat. Feb 14, Heather Noble rated it really liked it. Intriguing, witty, clever, sexy and violent with characters who may confound but they are battling against the odds as they cannot compete with London, the ultimate contender.
Exquisitely entertaining. This marks the second satire I've read this year involving London. There's apparently just something about the subject that fascinates me. I found the flawed characters compelling, and it really made me think about the influences that shape a city, especially a city as old as London.
Nov 17, Kate rated it it was ok. A little gory and trashy, but a good subway read. Jul 21, Ana Maria rated it did not like it. Mar 31, Martin rated it really liked it Shelves: literature , london. Well done. Definitely makes the short list of my very favorite London novels.
It also makes me want to read a lot more of the authors work. Sep 07, Wady rated it liked it. Loved the mosaic, puzzeled stories that seemed somewhat "holonomous" An enjoyable uncomfortable journey through London through three main characters whose stories interlink culminating in a disappointing ending.
Jul 15, Jason rated it liked it. At times this read like a Guy Ritchie movie. It was dark, had some funny moments, but overall it fell kind of flat by the end. Entertaining anyway. Add some now ». Look at the pads, are they close on the disc or do they move an excessive amount before biting which would give you a long lever travel?
Well the bike was fine until a small loss of fluid my fault, unscrewing something I shouldn't so the solution was to refill the system. I know some levers have a free stroke screw. Your awareness is wrong I'm afraid, the pads resting position is set by the square edged piston seals, sometimes when they are fresh built they are 'wetter' than normal and the pistons retract too far and it can take a while for them to settle. There is no pressure in the system until you pull the lever, if it 'worked' off when there was no pressure they could never self adjust for wear!
So have a look at pad travel and compare the two ends of the bike. Hi, thank you for the information, really helpful. The program, which runs 90 minutes in length, can be tailored to specific workplaces and scenarios and will be offered free of charge. Knowledge of bleeding control has applications beyond the hospital walls and we in the trauma program see great benefit in integrating this training with workplace safety training, in anticipation of isolated incidents.
We believe that by providing this education to as many individuals as possible, the potential of survival in the event of traumatic injury will substantially increase. Bleeding control skills are necessary because life-threatening bleeds can lead to death within 5 minutes, if not properly managed.
Front-line EMS personnel may take longer than that to arrive to the scene of an incident, so by-stander education is imperative.
